The goal here is to get your car ready for warmer weather ahead of time before the heat of the summer arrives while also making sure your car is in great shape after winter. Without further ado, here is our spring car maintenance guide.

Spring Car Maintenance Tip #1: Undercarriage

All of that road salt on Depew streets in the wintertime needs to be washed away. Salt touching bare metal, not your vehicle’s paint, will gradually corrode the iron or aluminum underneath your car. Take your vehicle to a car wash and have the undercarriage thoroughly cleaned. Take a hose or a powerwasher to get rid of any salt residue that might have built up during the winter.

Spring Car Maintenance Tip #2: Tires

Colder temperatures make the air in your tires shrink. As such, the air pressure in your tires might change between seasons. Perhaps you added a bit of air to your tires after you saw them shrink in the frigid weather. Check your tire pressure to make sure it’s at the right level for warmer weather. Look for any wear on your tires. Uneven wear might happen due to a wheel misalignment, which could happen if your car hits a pothole or two.

Spring Car Maintenance Tip #3: Windshield Wiper Blades

We recommend new windshield wipers every six months to one year. Winter can be especially hard on windshield wipers if you use them to remove ice. Temperature changes can cause the rubber to crack and become brittle. Look over your windshield wipers for signs of wear. You’ll want them working properly before springtime thunderstorms arrive.

Spring Car Maintenance Tip #4: Brakes

Your brakes can take a beating during the winter, too, especially as you try to navigate icy roads. The sudden temperature change between frigid temperatures and the friction of stopping with the brake pads can also cause more wear. Have your entire brake system checked when the weather turns warmer.

Spring Car Maintenance Tip #5: Lights

When you wash your vehicle, make sure you deep clean the lights to get any grime off of the light covers. If any light bulbs burn out during the winter, make sure to replace them readily.

Spring Car Maintenance Tip #6: Battery

Low temperatures force your car battery to work harder because it takes more juice to start your car. Have your car battery tested at a service center to see if it’s still strong enough to handle ordinary conditions.
